1. My favorite discovery was probably u-tube. However, I must admit, the only videos that were of interest to me, involved horses. I was thrilled that I could watch Secretariet run the triple crown again. I also discovered Craig's list. I had heard about it, but really got a chance to explore it.

2. This program has expanded my horizons as far as web-based resources. While I am not into reading people's blogs, at least I'm more aware of them and how to create one.

3. I can't say that there were any unexpected outcomes. Before participating in this program, I was not the kind of person who was tied to their computer. Upon completion, I am still not tied to my computer.

4. I think to improve upon this program, an initial training program as a group would have been beneficial. I have a harder time grasping some of the concepts presented than most people, and working as a group might have helped me.

5. I'm not sure... I think I need a little break to digest everything. If there was more group help, I might consider this.

6. I did learn about many things that alot of our patrons already use (u-tube, myspace, etc.), so I do feel more up-to-date. However, creating all those accounts grew tedious, and I must admit, I still worry about identity theft.

Even though I'm still waiting on approval of account, I did explore the Merlin site. I liked the calender... It's nice to see what training is available.

I looked at Overdrive, Netlibrary, and Project Gutemberg. I spent the bulk of my time on Project Gutemberg. I looked at Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and The Ghost in the White House. While I am an avid supporter of having the written book in hand, I can see where having access to downloadable books could be great for a lot of people. This could even save the day in those cases where teachers assign a classic to the whole class and all of our copies are checked out.

Banned Books Week On September 20, 2006 a group of students and librarians gathered at the Fletcher Library on the West campus to discuss personal experiences of censorship, the motivation and history of the Banned Boo...

I listened to several podcasts.... I was delighted to see so many podcasts geared towards young adults. Several of these interviewed young adult authors. I can see where the library could possibly incorporate these somehow. I also listened to the one above on Banned Books Week. I have still not figured out how to get the link to my blog.

I must admit .... not into the podcasts as much as the youtube videos. I guess I am more of a visual person.

This was my first experience with youtube. Naturally, I went right to the things that interest me... horses. I found some great videos. Some that explore inhumanities to horses, some in remembrance of great horses (Secretariat, Barbaro) and some just about the ordinary horses that fill mosts horse lovers' lives.

However, I can see where a person could end up wasting a lot of time just viewing videos. Moderation is the key.

I can also see where libraries could use you tube to reach audiences.

I explored several sites from Web 2.0 Awards.
The first site I visited was Craig's List. I love this site... easy to use, breaks things down into easy to find catagories etc. etc.

I explored several real estate sites ... I enjoyed looking at these, but they were pretty limited. However, you could get a feel for home prices around the country. This could be a useful tool in the library. People who are thinking of relocating to different states, could develop a sense of what their money will buy (real estate wise) in another part of the country.

I also looked at several music sites. This was a great way of listening to the type of music I like. One can really create their own radio station. I would love to pass this on to customers. I really enjoyed exploring these different sites... much more than reading personal blogs.

I would like to welcome two new boarders to the barn... Juno owned by Cassie Haga and Jack owned by Daphane Sterk. Both horses are settling in nicely and already have the routine down.

......Finally, I have found something to really get excited about. I can see how zoho writer could be a great thing. I could actually work from any computer without having to worry about software purchases.

I really did enjoy looking at the various wiki pages. I especially enjoyed the book lovers wiki. This is a great way for people to share information about the books they loved. I also enjoyed some the wiki's pertaining to cities. Who better to create a travel site about a city than the people who live and visit there.

I also enjoy looking at our own wiki pages, particularly the Finksburg wiki.

The only thing about a wiki that bothers me, is the fact that we don't have absolute control (and I do love control) over the page. That someone could edit my wiki bothers me and that I'm more open for spam bothers me.

I just finished reading "Away From Icebergs". I must agree with the concept of doing away with "just in case collections". I feel that most of the materials in our reference collections should be shifted to circulationg collections or in many cases, gotten rid of entirely. There are so many current web sites, on so many different topics, that book versions are out of date before they even hit the market.

I also agree that our services need to be available to all, with limitied training on how to use them. Patrons need to feel that they can easily use our technology.

I also read "Into a New World of Librarianship". I do feel that we need to do all we can to reach all segments of the population. If posting ourselves and our programs to myspace will do that, than so be it.
I do love the line in this article that says "This librarian does not buy technology for the sake of technology."

Viewed Technorati-- I'm amazed at the time that people put into these blogs. However, I must admit, I'm really not interested in viewing other people's blogs. It poses the question... if the internet collapsed tomorrow, how many people would just go off the deep end

Having a lot of difficulty with viewing podcast. Understand the idea of tagging-- to my small brain, this appears to be similar to what websites perform.

I have finally registered my blog-that only took two weeks. I have brought in my daughter for backup help, and after 20 minutes have finally reset my password. Lifelong learning is a little harder for some us.

Week one completed... goal is to learn more about electronic resources and electronic tools. The hardest part for me in completing Learning 2.0 is not be distracted by things going on around me and finding the time.
